History

Kakatiya, Bahmani, Qutb Shahi and Asaf Jahi histories shaped the region before Telangana became a state in 2014. Kakatiya rule left important forts, irrigation landscapes and temples around Warangal. Qutb Shahi and Asaf Jahi patronage later shaped Hyderabad’s architecture and multilingual courtly culture. Telangana became a state in 2014 after a long movement involving language, resources and regional identity.

Culture & Traditions

A Deccan state where Telugu, Urdu, Persianate court culture, folk traditions and technology converge. Bathukamma centres on floral arrangements, songs and women’s gatherings; Bonalu has different temple and local contexts. The Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara is connected with Adivasi religious histories and should not be reduced to a generic folk festival. Pochampally ikat, Cheriyal scroll painting and Nirmal work illustrate different craft processes. Telugu and Urdu cultural life intersects in the city while rural and Lambadi traditions contribute other voices.
